About me

I was born and raised in a small town in southern Sweden; always interested in arts and design as child; when I was older, I studied 3 years of graphic design, but my heart wasn’t content with a pen in hand then…wanderlust tugged at those heartstrings more. I’d seen much of Europe, so I boarded a plane across the Atlantic to dip my toes in America. After a year of cultural exchange and mastering my English, the plan was to return to Sweden. Once again, my heart had other plans; love. I met my now husband while in the US, and have been here since.  

 

I’ve always seeked a creative outlet, and never seem to be satisfied with the status quo. Lucky for me, my husband is in the Air Force, so we move around…A LOT. This has given me so many opportunities to design, decorate, and paint…turning houses into homes, whether it was for four months or three years…each time, I would bring my Scandinavian touch to each home. 

 

So, without overtly realizing it, I was always making each home a “smultronställe.” 

 

I’ve worked at a flower shop, where I found peace dreaming up floral designs while looking at the wall of ribbons.  I’ve been an entrepreneur in a small cake business, where I found joy in sculpting the smallest details out of fondant for the cartoon character du jour. Yet, I find myself always drawn back to decor and design of spaces. So, after constant pressure from friends and acquaintances, as well as some offers to design their homes, I’ve decided to try my hand at showing the world what I love. 

So now, in a pandemic, I was seeking connection and a creative outlet. I was looking for something to make my own, to find my calm while working through all these challenges… I was looking for a smultronställe. And so, Smultronstyle was born! I hope it will be inspiring to you.
