Crazy organized guest room closet!

I binge-watched the Netflix series “ Get organized with The Home Edit” and went to town in my guest room closet. Ever since we moved in about a year ago, it’s been a task I’d wanted to tackle. Well, with dangerously easy online Amazon shopping and given that 2020 is a stay at home year… I got after it.

Channeling the gentle art of Swedish Death Cleaning, I emptied the entire closet. I purged a few old sheets and towels. I took down the shelving, enabling me to see clearly and focus on the design of the closet. I wanted it to be a element of clean and functional with a stylish fun effect. I decided on a dark grey paint and decals. I rave to everyone how incredibly easy and fun the decals I used here are. Find them @ www.simpleshapes.com

ATTENTION; BEST PAINT TIP BELOW!

Here are my juicy details on the best painting tip I’ve learned over the years.

I use the yellow Frog delicate painters tape, but anytime you use painters tape, paint is going to bleed under the edges. No wall is smooth enough to prevent this. The key is intentionally getting the right color paint to bleed under the painter’s tape on purpose…

You want the background paint. The old wall color paint to bleed through.

In my example above, I happen to have the original white for the walls left. I put down my tape where I want the clean line to be. Then I painted the original white paint on top of the tape allowing it to bleed under the edge on the wall. It fills in all the tiny little areas where paint will flow in the original color, matching the background. This seals the tape; when I paint the new wall color, it can’t bleed under the tape; the white paint already bled under, matching the wall. With me so far?

Let the paint to dry on the tape. Do not remove the tape! Once it is dry, paint the wall the color you want. Without removing the tape, I then painted the wall color right on top of the painted tape.

Allow it to dry for an hour or 2. Then remove the tape and be amazed. I promise its worth the extra step and time. You will stand in awwwww when you peel the tape. It’s scary satisfying. I can stare at straight lines longer then I’d like to admit.

I used loads of different baskets and organizing bins to tuck away and hide all my blankets and sheets. Stuff them in pretty bins and get them organized. I ordered most of mine from Amazon, but had a few from IKEA already. Folding a fitted sheet is a real struggle. I’ve watched Marie Kondo and other YouTube videos. I’m getting there. Practice! But having them in bins makes it easier to put away and nothing flops out and looks messy.

We have lots of guests, (well, before 2020) With family in Sweden, they come for long period of times and our Air Force friends who stop by on their transits across the country. Make your guest feel warm and right at home by having things they need easy to find in an organized closet. I also like to add small details to make guests feel right at home. Like water bottles, some light snack bars, and tourism magazines from your area. No reason you can’t give the high end hotel experience. It makes you a great host, but word of warning: your guests might never want to leave. 🙂

Happy organizing!

Organizing makes my mind sing little happy notes…

Using a small coat rack for some extra space to hang items is a great way to both save space and add a stylish element to an otherwise boring corner. I’m in love with this triangle shaped clean rack. Find the Amazon link at the bottom of this blogpost.

The curtains you can see sneaking into the pictures are called HYGGE! Can you find a more suitable brand name for me? It’s a Danish comfy word to describe a feeling of warmth and feeling relaxed. This is exactly how I want my guest to feel in our home. Find the Amazon link below to shop my look.
