Lappland bells on our front porch

Our front porch has that old charm, perfect for sittin’n’sip’n. It’s small and wrapped with white wood, and we put an AWESOME white resin porch swing up to enjoy swingin’n’sittin’n’sip’n. The floor, though was painted in a spearmint green color, that just didn’t fit into my Nordic aesthetic.

Old meets new: the front part of our house is almost 100 years old now. Before we bought it, the home was almost entirely renovated, and a sleek, modern black metal addition was added to the back half.

I decided to give our porch flooring a fresh look, something darker that would contrast the white better. I painted it in a deep grey color.

The darker grey on our steps make the white look winter crisp! I’m so happy I decided to paint in late November; now I get to make a wonderful Nordic winter nook just in time. Thank you Midwest mild weather. Paint always freshen things up, and a little paint goes a long way.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Welcome to a clean and simple Nordic look; can you hear the reindeer bells from Lappland? I decorated using sparkly white and grey with black accents. Birch logs and candle lanterns complete the appearance, and are a Nordic Yule look must.

In the absence of Northern Lights, I wrapped the porch with a black string of modern LED Cafe lights. Patio lights like these don’t scream Christmas, and make for year round use.

I also decided on a heavy duty front door rug that easily transitions into spring. Grey has that neutrality. I love things that can switch from season to season with style.

A comfy big oversized sherpa blanket in our swing makes for perfect hot cocoa, glögg, and toddy evenings.

2020 has been a rough year, full of challenges and obstacles. I’m looking forward to some quiet twinkling cold nights on the front porch and closing the year out with some hygge family memories.
